Frequently Asked Questions

What do I have to do if I want a Web site?

It is absolutely essential that you determine in clear, concrete terms what the aims and functions of the site are to be. Is it simply to provide publicity? Do you plan to provide online shopping facilities? What information do you want to put on the Net? How are you going to gauge success/failure of the site? Many problems with Web sites arise from lack of clear aims.

How do I ensure my site gets lots of people visiting it?

There are a number of things which need to be done in publicising your site. Use of <META> tags remains important, and we will work out with our clients the relevant keywords to use in the tags. Submission of the site to search engines is crucial, and this is something we will undertake for our clients. However, there is more to it than that: if you want your potential customers to give more than a passing glance to your site, there needs to be more than simply advertising slogans and pretty images. Some form of informative or otherwise useful content, targeted at those you want to attract, will increase the amount of time they spend at the site. Ideally, this content would be changed on a regular basis, thus ensuring that they keep returning to your site and increase the likelihood they will buy something from you.

Is there anything I absolutely must include in the site?

In most cases you should provide some clear contact information. This may be no more than an e-mail address, but that is not recommended as not everyone who is surfing the net is doing so at a location from which they can send e-mail. If you are running a small business from your home you may well not want to include your address and telephone number, but there is no reason why you could not establish a Box No. address and/or a BT ‘lifetime’ phone number (or local equivalent).
If you are selling something, you must give a clear indication of what your goods or services will cost (+VAT if applicable). Above all, and, to judge from a large number of existing web sites, this does need saying, you must make it clear what sort of business you or your company actually conducts.
